Intermediate Adult Amateurs
For adult players who already have experience but want to move beyond a plateau in technique, sound, interpretation, repertoire, and musical understanding.
A New Stage of Life
For retired, semi-retired, or more flexible adults who want to make violin study a meaningful and consistent long-term part of their lives.
What Studying Here Means
Technique
A clear technical foundation that supports freedom, consistency, and musical expression.
Interpretation
Developing musical choices with greater awareness of style, phrasing, sound, and character.
Repertoire
Repertoire selected deliberately to support both musical development and individual interests.
Listening
Selected recordings and guided listening as part of developing musical judgment and awareness.
Musical Understanding
Historical, stylistic, and structural context when it genuinely deepens understanding and performance.
How the Studio Works
This is not a library of video lessons or a sequence of isolated appointments. It is an ongoing private course of musical study built around one student. In practice, a single passage may lead from bow distribution to phrasing, from phrasing to contrasting recordings, and from those recordings to a question of style. Technique, listening, repertoire, and musical context inform one another as part of the same musical work.
Private Study
Individual instruction shaped around your current level, repertoire, technical needs, and musical goals.
Regular Direction
Consistent sessions with clear priorities between lessons, so your practice has purpose and continuity.
Long-Term Development
A sustained approach to technique, interpretation, repertoire, and musical understanding, with periodic review of your progress.
About Ivan Fritzen
Ivan Fritzen is a violinist, ethnomusicologist and educator with more than sixteen years of experience teaching adult learners.
His musical work brings together classical training, performance, repertoire research, and critical listening, with particular engagement with Hungarian and Romani music from Central and Eastern Europe.
In the studio, this broader musical background informs an approach that goes beyond technical progress. Lessons connect technique with interpretation, repertoire, listening, and musical context, helping each student develop a more informed and independent relationship with the music they play.
What Students Say
“Ivan is a fantastic teacher. I took Suzuki violin lessons for seven years, and he is helping to fill in the foundational gaps that Suzuki did not provide. He is personable and gives great feedback to help me grow as a musician. I like that he is well-versed in different genres. I have had a few teachers over the years, and he is fantastic!”
Matthew — United States
“I’m one of Ivan’s students, and I wanted to share how great my violin lessons with him have been. He is very attentive, always paying close attention to my posture, and his teaching approach makes a real difference. The lessons are absolutely worth it — I highly recommend him!”
Barbara — Brazil
“Ivan has a remarkable ability to raise the level of his students while keeping them motivated. There were many times when I thought I was doing terribly, and he would be genuinely excited about every small improvement. I never imagined learning the violin could feel so accessible and enjoyable. He has always encouraged me to go further than I thought I could.”
Karla — Brazil
“I started studying with no previous musical background and no experience with the violin. Beginning from zero has been a major challenge, but with his guidance my wish to play the violin is becoming real. Studying with him has become one of the best parts of my day. In just six months I have learned far more than I ever imagined would be possible. He is an excellent teacher, with unusual patience and a very strong pedagogical approach.”
Adriana — Brazil
Tuition
The studio is structured around recurring private study rather than individual lessons, with different formats depending on the student’s needs and preferred rhythm of study.
