Studio Policies

The Studio is designed around regular, focused, and individualized musical study. These policies provide a clear framework for scheduling, communication, tuition, and continuity, while allowing lessons themselves to remain flexible and responsive to each student.

These violin studio policies provide the practical framework for regular study and apply throughout a student’s time with the Studio.

Scheduling

Lessons are scheduled according to the study format agreed upon between the student and the Studio.

Because students may be joining from different countries and time zones, lesson times are always confirmed according to the time zone agreed upon when scheduling. Students are responsible for keeping track of any local daylight-saving changes that may affect the time difference.

Regular lesson times are reserved specifically for each student and should be treated as an ongoing appointment rather than booked independently from week to week.

Occasional scheduling adjustments may be possible by mutual agreement.

Rescheduling & Cancellations

A lesson may be rescheduled when at least 24 hours’ notice is provided, subject to Studio availability.

Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice are normally considered given and are not credited or refunded. The same applies to missed lessons without notice.

Whenever possible, the Studio will try to accommodate reasonable changes, particularly when students are traveling or dealing with unusual circumstances. Rescheduling, however, cannot always be guaranteed.

If the Studio needs to cancel a lesson, the lesson will be rescheduled or credited in full.

Tuition & Payment

Tuition reserves both lesson time and a place in the Studio’s teaching schedule.

Payment is made in advance according to the study format agreed upon with the student. Payment details, currency, frequency, and available methods are communicated individually before regular study begins.

Tuition covers the scheduled course of study rather than attendance on a pay-per-lesson basis. Missed or late-canceled lessons therefore do not normally reduce the tuition due.

Any change in tuition will be communicated in advance.

Punctuality

Students are encouraged to be ready a few minutes before the scheduled lesson so that technical setup does not take away from lesson time.

If a student arrives late, the lesson will normally still end at the originally scheduled time, as another lesson or professional commitment may follow.

If the Studio is responsible for a delayed start, the lost time will be made up whenever possible.

Breaks & Holidays

The Studio observes periodic breaks during the year for holidays, travel, and professional commitments.

These periods are communicated in advance whenever possible and are taken into account when scheduling the course of study.

Students planning extended travel or other significant breaks are encouraged to communicate this as early as possible so that an appropriate arrangement can be discussed.

Short interruptions do not necessarily require ending regular study.

Online Lesson Requirements

Students are responsible for having a reliable internet connection and a device capable of supporting a video call with usable audio.

A computer, laptop, or tablet is generally preferable to a phone. The device should be positioned so that the teacher can clearly see the student’s posture, instrument, bow, and playing movements.

Headphones are not normally required and may sometimes make instrumental sound more difficult to assess.

Before the first lesson, students should make sure that their instrument is in playable condition and that the lesson space allows them to stand or sit comfortably with enough room to use the bow freely.

The Studio may recommend adjustments to camera placement, microphone settings, or audio configuration when these can improve the quality of online instruction.

Changes to Study Format

A student’s needs may change over time.

Practice availability, professional commitments, travel, repertoire goals, or other circumstances may make a different lesson frequency or study structure more appropriate.

Changes to the existing format can be discussed at any time. When possible, the Studio will accommodate them, subject to teaching availability.

Any change becomes effective only after it has been agreed upon by both the student and the Studio.

Ending Study

Either the student or the Studio may decide to conclude regular study.

Whenever possible, students are asked to provide reasonable advance notice rather than ending an ongoing study arrangement immediately. This allows the final lessons to be planned meaningfully and the reserved teaching time to be released responsibly.

Any tuition already due for the current agreed study period remains payable. Future periods that have not yet begun are not automatically renewed after study has been formally concluded.

The Studio may also end a teaching arrangement when regular scheduling, communication, payment, or the conditions necessary for productive musical study can no longer be maintained.

Whenever a period of study comes to an end, the aim is for the transition to be handled clearly, professionally, and respectfully.
